Section 5. Nepotism <br />• The spouse (husband or wife) of an employee shall not be <br />eligible for employment in the same department. <br />No person shall be employed who is related within the sec- <br />ond degree by affinity or within the third degree of consanguin- <br />ity to his supervisor, division head or director. <br />Second degree by affinity is defined as brother-in-law, <br />sister-in-law, father-in-law and mother-in-law. The third degree <br />of consanguinity is defined as parent, brother, sister, grand- <br />parent, aunt, uncle, great grandparent, great uncle and great <br />aunt. <br />The City Administrator may apply the nepotism prohibition <br />in other organizational and/or personal relationships when <br />failure to do so would be detrimental to the City. <br />Section 6. Residence <br />There shall be no absolute residence requirement for City <br />employment below the directors level. Employees likely to be <br />called to work in cases of emergency may be required to reside <br />within reasonable commuting ranges of their places of work. <br />• Section 7. Medical Examinations <br />A person selected for initial appointment or reinstatement <br />may be required to undergo a medical examination at City expense. <br />Employment shall be contingent upon successful completion of the. <br />medical examination if one is required in relation to the standards <br />of fitness required for the position involved. The City Adminis- <br />trator, acting on information provided by medical personnel, shall <br />be the final authority in determining medical suitability for <br />employment. <br />With the approval of the City Administrator, a department <br />head may require that a current employee successfully undergo a <br />medical examination to determine fitness for continued employ- <br />ment or for promotion or other personnel action. <br />• <br />7 <br />
