FIRST STREET <br />!t// <br />Per your request of March 6, 1984 I have developed the following cost data <br />concerning the the wall removed by city crews for the oversized sewer line <br />being installed in the alley between First St. and Broadway in the 400 block. <br />The wall is 83 linear feet long by 6 feet tall. It is basically constructed of <br />a concrete beam with piers every five feet, the blocks, reinforcing mesh, and <br />mortar. It was originally built in 1953 and has survived to the present day <br />with no modifications. The owner, Bill Jones, indicates he will accept no sub- <br />stitutions in rebuilding this wall. <br />I contacted a total of ten masonry contractors in the Bay Area to obtain quota- <br />tions to rebuild this wall. At the present time I have received two bids on re- <br />placing this structure to its original state. They are as follows; <br />1. B & D Masonry Contractors - 944-5444 - Ken Freytag <br />Material Cost - $3,785 <br />Labor Cost - $6,415 <br />Total Cost - $10,200 <br />2. Myric Masonry - 427-5294 - Mike Myric <br />Material Cost - $3,916 <br />Labor Cost - $3,204 <br />Total Cost - $7,120 <br />Neither quotation includes repouring the beam. Should the beam need to be re- <br />poured the City of La Porte will need to make arrangements to have this done <br />at additional cost. ~~ <br />It is important to note that if Bill Jones could be persuaded to accept a wall <br />constructed of cinder block as a replacement for his existing wall the total <br />job cost could be lowered to the $2500 range. <br />I will continue my efforts to obtain more quotations for comparison purposes. <br />Please advise if you have any further needs on this project. <br />JR/mb <br />.AJ) o d{ <br />
