<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte city council <br />May 18, 1992, Page 2 <br /> <br />Councilperson Thrower asked that the minutes be corrected on <br />page 2, item 6, to show that councilperson McLaughlin <br />nominated councilperson Alton Porter. <br /> <br />The vote was taken, and the corrected minutes were approved, <br />7 ayes, 0 nays, 2 abstain. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Porter, Maxwell and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilpersons Gay and Clarke <br /> <br />5. Mrs. Valerie Buckner addressed Council regarding the upcoming <br />Bay Day celebration on May 30 and 31. She presented Council <br />T-shirts commemorating the occasion. <br /> <br />6. Mayor Malone and Council presented outgoing Councilman B. Don <br />Skelton with a proclamation and a plaque in appreciation of <br />his service to the citizens of La Porte. A gift from the <br />executive staff and Mr. Skelton's Council portrait were <br />presented by City Manager Herrera. Mr. Skelton expressed his <br />appreciation of the gifts and of being allowed to serve 17% of <br />his life for the citizens of La Porte. <br /> <br />7. Centennial certificates of Appreciation were presented to <br />Sarah Odell, Al Blackford and Rex Carr for their contributions <br />to the community. <br /> <br />8. There were no citizens wishing to address Council. <br /> <br />9. Council considered an ordinance approving and authorizing a <br />contract between the City of La Porte and the hospitality <br />industry consulting services group of Coopers and Lybrand. <br /> <br />Mr. Herrera briefed Council on past events leading up to this <br />item and introduced Mr. Tom Latin of the firm of Coopers and <br />Lybrand. Mr. Latin addressed Council regarding the procedures <br />his group would take to do a marketing study. <br /> <br />The city Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1842 - AN ORDINANCE <br />APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE AND THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY CONSULTING SERVICES GROUP <br />OF COOPERS & LYBRAND, CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS; <br />APPROPRIATING NOT TO EXCEED $20,000.00 TO FUND SAID CONTRACT; <br />MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE <br />SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv Councilperson Clarke to adoot Ordinance <br />1842 as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Gay. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />
