SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION Police patrol unit number 53-54 was damaged due to a fire which started under the dashboard. One estimator, from Timmer's Chevrolet, did provide the City with an estimate of "at least $7,000 for the cost of the wiring harness alone. The firewall, dashboard, radio, electrical equipment and etc. will have to be replaced also. He advised he would consider it a total loss. The Vehicle Replacement Fund has $4,461 applied toward a replacement of this vehicle. Knapp Chevrolet was awarded the City contract to provide police vehicles. They indicated they have a vehicle which exceeds our specifications. After painting and adding push bumpers and afire extinguisher the cost would be $15,320 (The vehicles meeting our specifications were $13,429 each). Joe Camp Ford has a police package vehicle on their lot, which after painting and adding push bumpers and a fire extinguisher would be $14,063.25. There would not be a need to rebid this item as it would fall under the exemptions of the purchasing status. The design of the Motor Pool Fund allows us to replace the damaged unit without causing a financial burden on the fund. Disposing of the burned vehicle by salvage by sealed bid we will recover more funds than if we hold the vehicle for auction. The money from the salvage will be returned to Vehicle Motor Pool for replacement of this vehicle. Recommend: Purchase of replacement vehicle from Joe Camp Ford for the amount $14,063.25. Cost to be taken from the Motor Pool Fund.
