Mr. Herrera thanked the department <br />heads for their effort in the workshops and expressed <br />gratitude to the City council for their patience and <br />tremendous amount of insight into some of the services that <br />are needed throughout the ci ty of La Porte. Mr. Herrera <br />stated, "Because of your guidance and the wisdom in some of <br />the areas, I believe this budget properly represents a <br />responsible level of public services for this next fiscal <br />year. The budget has been built in all funds without a tax <br />increase, without a water rate increase, and without an <br />increase in any of our enterprise funds." Mr. Herrera asked <br />Council for a favorable vote on this item. Mayor Malone <br />closed the public hearing at 6:18 P.M. <br /> <br />8. CONSIDER AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE BUDGET FOR <br />THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, FOR THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 1, 1995 <br />THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 1996 (Ord. 95-2060) - R. T. Herrera <br /> <br />Assistant City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 95-2060 - AN <br />ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE BUDGET FOR THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE, TEXAS, FOR THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 1, 1995 THROUGH <br />SEPTEMBER 30, 1996; FINDING THAT ALL THINGS REQUISITE AND <br />NECESSARY HAVE BEEN DONE IN PREPARATION AND PRESENTMENT OF <br />SAID BUDGET; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made bv council-person Maxwell to approve the budget <br />as presented. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion <br />carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br /> <br />Councilperson Porter commented that staff and Council did an <br />excellent job in preparation for the budget. He stated, "I am <br />surprised that we did not have any public input. We should <br />take this as positive on our part. Staff does a tremendous <br />job, and we should take it as a compliment we also are doing <br />a good job. I am a little concerned that we go through <br />something of this magnitude and never really have much feed- <br />back from the public. I guess the good news is we must be <br />doing something right." <br /> <br />Mayor Malone, hearing no other comments, called for a vote. <br /> <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />None <br /> <br />Ayes: <br />
