Box 1115 <br />La Porte, Texas 78572-1115 <br />Dear Jeff: <br />Thank you for the opportunity to propose professional assistance to the City of La Porte in wide azea <br />network and system planning. The purpose of our assistance will include preparing a plan for <br />establishing a wide azea network (WAN), developing a conversion plan to the "Windows" environment, <br />and planning for two (2) systems (fleet maintenance and pazks & recreation). <br />Task 1: Determine Needs <br />Our consultant will visit with the City's information systems staff and you to further define network <br />needs. Included within this task will be discussions concerning such issues as: <br />Novell NetWaze versus Microsoft NT -- plus industry trends <br />Network "Tools" <br />Use of Lease Lines, Fiber Optics, FrameRelay, Tl, etc. to connect remote locations. <br />Discussions will be held with the MIS Steering Committee and management concerning the conversion <br />from the Word Perfect and associated products environment to the new standazd of Microsoft Office, <br />implementation of a WAN, and support /maintenance issues associated with the WAN. <br />Professional Hours: 32 <br />Task 2: Network Design <br />Once the issues and needs have been determined, our consultant will design the network (probably a <br />Wide Area Network consisting of multiple LAN's). The City's existing schematics will be utilized.
