<br />Funeral services were held
<br />Tuesday afternoon for La Porte City
<br />Councilman Robert Edward (Bob)
<br />Thrower, 68, who passed away this
<br />past Friday in a Houston hospital
<br />after a lengthy battle with a heart
<br />ailment.
<br />Thrower had represented the con-
<br />stituents of District 3 on the La
<br />, Porte ,City Council for almost six
<br />
<br />

<br />years, as he was in the final months
<br />of his second three-year term. By
<br />city charter, council has 120 days to '
<br />call a special election to fill his post,
<br />but since the regular council elec-
<br />tion is set for May 3, the District 3
<br />seat will remain open until the elec-
<br />tion is held.
<br />Services for the longtime La Porte I
<br />resident were held at the First
<br />United Methodist Church, with the
<br />Rev. Marlin Fenn officiating, and
<br />burial followed at Forest Park East
<br />Cemetery, under the direction of'
<br />Grand View Funeral Home in
<br />Pasadena. Pallbearers included Joe
<br />D. Burton, Allen House, Mike
<br />Tomerlin, Larry O'Neil, James
<br />: Hughey and Lt. Robert Hughey.
<br />Honorary pallbearers were Ens.
<br />Ronnie Holladay, Richard Hughey,
<br />Randall Hughey, Conrad Reynolds,
<br />James Peters, Charles Peters, fellow .
<br />members. of the La Por~e City

<br />Councilman Thrower was a grad-
<br />uate of the University of Houston,
<br />served in both the Army and the
<br />Nayy and retired from the NASA
<br />space program after 36 years of
<br />, government service. He was a mem':
<br />ber of the First United Methodist
<br />Church, and was an active Mason in
<br />I Southeast .Harris County. He was '
<br />. charter registrar of Ridout Priory
<br />#75 K.Y.C.H., a member of the Gulf
<br />Coast Y.R. College #106, and a
<br />member of the Royal Order of
<br />Scotland. He was a member of the
<br />Red Branch of Eri and Past
<br />, Excellent Chief of Nat Pace Council
<br />#46 K.M., a member ,of Backford
