• The City should conduct quarterly GIS steering committee meetings (Managers) <br />• The City should conduct quarterly GIS user group meetings (Front-line staff) <br />• A City of La Porte GIS newsletter (hardcopy and/or Intranet) should be distributed <br />as a means of sharing successes and educating the organization about the uses of <br />GIS <br />• Sharing data with the public through Internet based GIS applications and public <br />access terminals is needed <br />• Most departments will need to identify a staff person to be the GIS liaison for their <br />department <br />A successful GIS is measured not by the amount of money spent, the volume of data, or the <br />GIS software utilized but by the applications made available and the usage of these <br />applications by staff and the public. Key applications have been identified and prioritized <br />and are as follows: <br />• Data Browser - most commonly used GIS functionality made available to entire <br />organization <br />• Emergency Dispatch/911 — Computerized maps of calls as they are received <br />• Intranet Web Data Browser — Internal web based GIS browser <br />• Touch Screen Public Access — Extremely easy to use touch screen GIS application <br />for use by the public <br />• Internet GIS — Public access of GIS data via the Internet <br />• Police Incident Analysis — Allows mapping of all incidents for crime analysis, arson <br />investigations, balancing districts, and optimal facility location. <br />• Citizen Concern/Inquiry Tracking — Allows staff to log citizen concern/inquiry calls <br />from the public. Staff can view trends, clusters of calls, and can track the resolution <br />of any call. <br />• Field Book Creation — Field map books for Police and various emergency crews and <br />Utility staff <br />©Geographic Technologies Group, Inc. ii <br />
