s <br />• <br />(S) A minimum distance of 2 feet shall be maintained from the right-of-way line to the outside edge of <br />the water line. <br />1. Boulevard streets: When necessary, water lines, except for landscape irrigation, <br />may be located within the esplanade. Water lines should be located as near the <br />centerline as possible to avoid conflict with future pavement widening. The <br />lines should be located in the street right-of--way but so as to avoid conflict with <br />future pavement widening. <br />2. Locations within an easement: Locate water lines in the center of a 10-foot <br />minimum width dedicated water line easement. Within a commercial <br />development inside the City of La Porte, center water lines within a 20-foot <br />easement. For location within side lot easements, the minimum easement width <br />shall be 10 feet. Obtain approval from the Planning Department for lines to be <br />located in smaller or multi-use easements. <br />3. When a water line is placed parallel to but not crossing any other proposed or <br />existing utility line, other than a sanitary sewer, the water line shall have a <br />minimum of 4 feet horizontal clearance from the outside wall of the existing <br />. utility <br />4. Depth of cover <br />a. Whenever possible, changes in grade or alignment to cleaz utilities or <br />underground features should be accomplished by deflecting pipe joints. <br />The maximum designed deflection shall be '/s of the manufacturer's <br />allowable deflection. The use of regular bends for any change of grade <br />shall not be allowed except when prior approval is obtained from the <br />Planning Department. <br />c. If a depth greater than 8 feet or less than 4 feet to the top of the pipe is <br />required, a welded section of water line shall be used and continued for <br />all areas the depth of cover exceeds 8 feet or is less than 4 feet. <br />(_ 1) All transitions from steel pipe to approved water main materials <br />shall be constructed using electrically isolated flange joints. <br />(2) Welded steel water line sections shall be constructed in accordance <br />with City of La Porte construction details for water lines. <br />D. Appurtenances <br />1. Do not place appurtenances in pavement whereas the appurtenance would be <br />covered in whole or in part by pavement. Gate valves etc. may be placed in <br />sidewalks or paved roadways provided that they are accessible. <br />2.
