The meeting was called to order at 7:07 P.M. by Mayor Cline. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Virginia Cline, <br />Councilpersons Ed Matuszak, Kevin Graves, Lindsay Pfeiffer, <br />Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton, Linda Westergren, Norman Malone <br />and John Longley <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Director <br />of Administrative Services Bob Herrera, Police Chief Herb <br />Freeman, Director of Community Services John Joerns, Chief <br />Building Official David Paulissen, Director of Public Works <br />Jerry Hodge, Director of Parks & Recreation Stan Sherwood <br />• Others Present: Elizabeth Brown; Lou Lawler; Dr. E. Harvey; <br />Gary Mitchell; Mr. Lapsley; Arlene Arends, Bayshore Sun- <br />Broadcaster; Sig Christenson, Baytown Sun; 6 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Malone. <br />3. The minutes of the regular meeting held February 15 were con- <br />sidered for approval. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to ap rove the minutes <br />of the February 15 meetin as resented. Second by Council- <br />person Malone. The motion carried, 8 ayes, 0 nays .and 1 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Matuszak, Graves, Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, <br />Westergren, Malone, and Longley <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Mayor Cline (was not present at Feb. 15 meeting) <br />4. Mayor Cline proclaimed Youth Art Month and presented the <br />proclamation to Ms. Elizabeth Brown, representing La Porte <br />Independent School District. <br />5. Lou Lawler, representing La Porte-Bayshore Seamen's Center, <br />made a presentation to Council to request a $5,000 "boost" to <br />help the Center keep going. Dick Bell gave a short statistical <br />• report on the number of seamen using the facility. <br /> <br />
