M. <br />Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Kayor H. J. :Pfeiffer, <br />with the following. members and city officials present: Commissioners Wm. P.~ Jones, <br />and Jas. S.Crate, Jr., City Attorney Carl C. Patrick, A. B. Moore, Engineer on the <br />Dever Disposal Plant, and City Clerk J. E;. Muldoon. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Mr. Hugh Stone, Tax Commissioner, and..Mr. Heard, Attorney, both with, the .Humble Oil <br />& Refining Company, appeared before the Commission and requested them to release a <br />part of their land from the City which was annexed to the City under Section l0 of <br />the Home Rule Charter. <br />After. .considerable discussion, the City Commission denied their request. <br />Mr. Ferbert Bartley, and Mr. Ben Browning, representing the La Porte Independent <br />School District, appeared .before the Comsission, and requested the City to close <br />the streets; *aive the taxes and penalties, on the land they recently acquired from <br />Mr.~ A. 0. Blackwell, for a new school site. - <br />The City Commission unanimously agreed to close the street ~an~d alleys on the school <br />site, however it was-agreed that an easement should be xeta3,ned. This matter was <br />handed to the City Attorney to determine what. interest-the City had i,n the streets <br />and alleys, before taking further action. ' <br />Motion by Jones, second by Crate, to accept. advance of monies.-for ..the cost of water <br />and sewer lines construction to the A. 0. Blackwell school site, from the La Porte <br />Independent School District, this advance to b e refunded tb the La Porte Independent <br />School District, without interest, by crediting their account-with amount charged <br />for water and sewer each month at the A. 0. Black~rell school-site, until total <br />amount is refunded. After refund of advance is made, the school district shall pay <br />the water and sewer charges on the A. O. Blackwell site, the same as on their other <br />water accounts.' <br />Oarried. <br />z ,~ <br />Ia~oticm by-donee „second by.Crate, instructing the City :Clerk toissue a purchase <br />order to Sargent and Sawell, Inc., for one Wilshire Power Sweeper, with lights. <br />Carried. <br />:/ <br />The City Clerk read a letter from the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, in <br />which they requested the City to takd up with Southern Pacific, the matter of <br />installing danger signals at their-railroad Grassing on the Spencer Highway. <br />The Commission instructed the City Attorney to draw up an'ordinance compelling the <br />railroad company to install warning signals. <br />v" <br />
