Council considered approving a resolution approving the purchase of tax resale properties <br />by the City of La Porte. <br /> <br />Financial Director Cynthia Alexander presented summary and recommendation and <br />answered Council's questions. <br /> <br />City Attorney read: WHEREAS THE CITY OF LA PORTE (CITY), IN THE COURSE <br />OF ITS FUNCTION AS A TAXING ENTITY IN THE STATE OF TEXAS OBTAINS <br />TITLE TO REAL PROPERTY IN THE CAPACITY AS TRUSTEE FOR ITSELF AND <br />OTHER TAXING UNITS THAT TAX THE PROPERTY. WHEREAS IT IS <br />NECESSARY FOR VARIOUS REASONS THAT SOME OF THE PROPERTY SO <br />OBTAINED MUST BE RESOLD BY THE TAXING UNITS FOR LESS THAN THE <br />AGGREAGA TE AMOUNTS OF TAXES, PENALTIES, INTEREST AND COSTS. <br />WHEREAS, THE CITY HAS ADOPTED PROCEDURES DESIGNED TO PROVIDE <br />ALL PARTIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT OFFERS TO PURCHASE SUCH <br />REAL PROPERTY AND TO SECURE THE BEST OFFER FOR SUCH PROPERTY <br />THAT IS SUFFICIENT TO PAY AT LEAST THE COSTS OF SUIT AND SALE OF <br />SUCH PROPERTY. WHEREAS, IT IS DESIRABLE THAT RESALE OF THE <br />PROPERTY BE FREE AND CLEAR OF ALL CLAIMS OF THE TAXING UNITS, <br />FOR ALL TAXES, PENAL TIES INTEREST AND COSTS THAT HAVE ACCRUED <br />UP TO THE DATE OF SALE. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Griffiths to approve Resolution 2001-17 as <br />presented bv Ms. Alexander. Second by Councilperson Young. The motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke, and <br />Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br /> <br />9. Council considered approving a resolution authorizing the acquisition of a tract of land <br />for public park purposes. <br /> <br />City Manager Robert Herrera presented summary and recommendation and answered <br />Council's questions. This item will be discussed further during the Executive Session. <br /> <br />City Attorney read: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION OF A <br />TRACT OF LAND FOR PUBLIC PARK PURPOSES IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW AND PROVIDING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to approve Resolution 2001-18 as presented <br />by Mr. Herrera. Second by Councilperson Ebow. The motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke, and <br />Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />
