• MINUTES - REGULAR MEETIN~ <br />OF THE <br /> <br />LA PORTS CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTS, TEXAS <br />OCTOBER 27, 1969 <br />7:00 P.M. <br />MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. P. Pfeiffer, <br />Commissioners E. A. T omas, C arles D. Boyle, Bobby J. <br />Burgin and H. Gould Crofoot. <br />MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION ABSENT: None. <br />OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Administrator, P. V. <br />Werner; City Cler Vlrginla Cline; City Attorney, Knox <br />Askins; Director of Public Works, Robert Cline and Police <br />Lt., Floyd Reynolds. <br />PRESIDING: Mayor Pfeiffer. <br />Minutes of the regular meeting of October 6, 1969, were <br />approved as presented. <br />+ + + <br />1. A joint public hearing was held before the Planning <br />and Zoning Commission and the City Commission to con- <br />sider the question of the possible change in the <br />definition of front lot line as contained in OrdinancE <br />No. 780, as to property located on Bayshore Drive <br />facing Galveston Bay. <br />After a brief discussion Mayor Pfeiffer referred the <br />problem back to the Planning and Zoning Commission fog <br />further study. <br />+ + + <br />2. Mr. Jerry Carpenter from Matheson Scientific demon- <br />strated a gas detector which could be used to detect <br />phosgene gas. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Thomas, seconded by <br />Commissioner Burgin that the City purchase the detec- <br />tor for $80.00 plus $6.50 for the needed tubes. <br />Motion carried <br />+ + + <br />3. Mr. Ed Barlow, Consulting Engineer, reported the <br />paving program was completed. There exists one <br />trouble spot on S. 1st Street that will need further <br />attention. Total cost of the paving program was <br />$31,836.13. <br />Mr. Barlow also stated that Grant No. WPC-Tex-679 has <br />been issued by Texas Water Quality Board for the <br />City's application for a reimbursable Federal grant <br />for the construction of sewage facilities. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Burgin, seconded by <br />Commissioner Crofoot that Walter A.
