MINUTES - REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION, LA PORTE, TEXAS <br />JUNE 15, 1970 <br />7:00 P.M. <br />MEMBERS OF TiiE COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor H. Carlos Smith, <br />Commissioners-=E. A. Thomas, I. J. Kibodeaux, Bobby J. Burgin, <br />and H. Gould Crofoot. <br />MEMBERS OF THE COMT'~ISSION ABSENT: None. <br />OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: Ruth Huddleston, Assistant <br />City Clerk; Robert Cline, Director of Public Works; and <br />H. F. Freeman, Chief of Police. <br />PRESIDING: Mayor Smith. <br />+ + + <br />Invocation was given by Commissioner Thomas. <br />1. The minutes of the regular meeting of June 1, 1970 <br />were approved as presented. <br />+ + + <br />2. Mr. James Spradling addressed the Commission in <br />regards to a stop sign which had been removed from <br />the intersection of Valleybrook and Catlett in <br />Fairmont Park and replaced with a pedestrian cross- <br />ing sign, which was later taken down and the stop <br />sign put back up. Mr. Spradling asked why the stop <br />sign was taken down in the first place, as in his <br />opinion it is badly needed. <br />Mayor Smith stated he did not know why the signs <br />were exchanged, but he would ask Chief Freeman <br />to make a survey of the intersection to determine <br />what kind of a sign was needed. <br />+ + + <br />3. Mr. Albert Johnson, spokesman for the Black Youth <br />Club of La Porte, appeared before the Commission <br />in regards to the unlawful detainment recently of <br />two youths by the La Porte Police. <br /> <br />
