<br />• <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CALLED MEETING <br />OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 24, 2000 <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 p.m. <br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken, <br />Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke, <br />and Mayor Norman Malone. <br />Members of Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Manager Robert T, <br />Herrera, Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong, Assistant City Manager John Joems, <br />Director of Public Works Steve Gillett, Police Chief Richard Reff, City Secretary Martha <br />Gillett, Finance Director Cynthia Alexander, Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr, <br />and Purchasing Manager Susan Kelley. <br />Others Present: Spero Pomonis, Randy Gilcrest, George Watkins, Dara Olivo, Ed <br />Matuszak, Sib Carpenter, Sue Gayle Kooken, and a number of citizens. <br />2. Reverend Randy Gilcrest delivered the Invocation. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Special Called Workshop Meeting on <br />April 17, 2000. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Young to approve the minutes of the Special Called <br />Workshop Meeting; as presented. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Griffiths, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke, and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Ebow <br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMCJNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />TAXPAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL. <br />Sib Carpenter - 5234 Glen Meadows Dr., La Porte, Texas 77571- addressed Council to <br />inform them she is against putting up a fence at the park in her subdivision. Ms. <br />Carpenter also addressed the Council regarding a stop sign before the park. She stated <br />she feels the City should take a wait and see approach and is not in favor of the stop sign. <br />A. Dana Olivo -Indian Autumn Trace, Clear Lake City - Ms. Olivo addressed City <br />Council regarding the Port of Houston expansion. She requested the City hire <br />her as a consultant to assist the City in forming a coalition to participate on a cost <br />share basis in the retention of an independent technical consultant to review and <br />comment on the Corp of Engineer's draft EIS document. <br />Ed Matuszak -10443 Catlett Lane, La Porte - Mr. Matuszak addressed the <br />Council regarding participation in cost sharing of hiring independent Technical <br />
