<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 8B9 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A RESERVE POLICE FORCE; ESTABLISH- <br />ING STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES; APPROVING APPOINTMENTS BY THE <br />CHIEF OF POLICE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section I. The City commission of the City of La Porte <br /> <br />hereby establishes the City of La Porte Police Reserve Force, <br /> <br />pursuant to the authority granted by Art. 998a, .Revised Civil <br /> <br />Statutes. Members of the Police Reserve Force shall be <br /> <br />appointed at the discretion of the Chief of Police and shall <br /> <br />serve as peace officers during the actual discharge of official <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />duties. <br /> <br />Section 2. Reserve police officers shall meet the minimum <br /> <br />physical, mental, educational, and moral standards established <br /> <br />by the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and <br /> <br />Education, provided, however, that the twelve (12) persons <br /> <br />hereinafter named who were serving as duly authorized reserve <br /> <br />law enforcement officers of the City of La Porte before <br /> <br />August 30; 1971, who have now been reappointed by the Chief of <br /> <br />POlice, may temporarily serve as reserve law enforcement offi- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />cers without fulfilling the minimum training standards estab- <br />lished by the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards <br /> <br />and Education. However, in no case shall any person serve as <br /> <br />a reserve law enforcement officer after January 1, 1973, unless <br /> <br />he has fulfilled the minimum physical, mental, educational, <br /> <br />moral, and training standards established by the Commission on <br />Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. <br /> <br />Section 3. No person appointed to the Police Reserve <br /> <br />Force may carry a weapon or otherwise act as a peace officer <br /> <br />until he has been approved by the City Commission. After <br />approval, he may carry a weapon only when authorized by the <br />Chief of Police, and when discharging official duties as a <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />duly constituted peace officer. <br />
