<br />. . <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 948 <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE CALLING THE REGULAR ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE CITY <br />OF LA PORTE; CALLING A RUN-OFF ELECTION, IF NECESSARY; DESIG- <br />NATING AN ELECTION PRECINCT AND A POLLING PLACE; PROVIDING FOR <br />THE USE OF VOTING MACHINES; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALSi <br />PROVIDING FOR METHOD AND DATES OF ABSENTEE VOTING; PROVIDING <br />FOR RETURN AND CANVASS OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR NOTICE; PROVIDING FOR FILING DEADLINE AND FILING FEES FOR <br />CANDIDATESi PROVIDING A SVAINGS CLAUSEi AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CO~lISSION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. An election shall be held within the corporate <br /> <br />limits of the City of La Porte, Texas, on the 7th day of April, <br />1973, such day being the first Saturday in April, 1973, between <br />seven 0'c10ck (7;00) A.M. and seven o'clock (7:00) P.M., for <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />the purpose of electing a commissioner of said City for Position <br /> <br />No.1, and a Commissioner of said City for Position No.3. A <br /> <br />run-off election, if necessary, shall be held on May 5, 1973, <br /> <br />between the same hours. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Commission of the City of La Porte <br /> <br />hereby designates and establishes all of the area encompassed <br /> <br />within the corporate limits of the City of La Porte, as one <br /> <br />election precinct for this election, and the City Hall of the <br />City of La Porte is designated as the one polling place for <br /> <br />such election. Voting machines shall be used in the conduct <br /> <br />of such election. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />Mrs. Arbe1a Ralston <br /> <br />is hereby <br /> <br />appointed Presiding Judge of said election, and Mrs. <br />Isadore Jenkins is hereby appointed Alternate Presiding Judge <br /> <br />of said election. The maximum number of clerks which may be <br /> <br />appointed to serve at said election is three (3), who shall be <br /> <br />selected by the Presiding Judge or the Alternate Presiding <br /> <br />Judge, as the case may be. <br /> <br />Section 4. Absentee voting by personal appearance shall <br /> <br />begin on the 20th day and shall continue through the 4th day <br />preceding the day of the election. Absentee voting shall be <br />conducted by the City Clerk at the same place as provided in <br /> <br />-~. <br /> <br />Section 2 hereof.
