<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />permit absentee voting by personal appearance during regular <br /> <br />working days and hours for the Clerk's office, and on Saturdays <br /> <br />from ten o'clock (10:00) A.M. until two o'clock (2:00) P.M. The <br />City Clerk of the City of La Porte is hereby authorized and <br /> <br />directed to appoint deputy absentee balloting clerks, as neces- <br /> <br />sary. <br /> <br />Section 5. Immediately after the close of the polls on <br />the 7th day of April, 1973, the election officials shall make <br />due return thereof to the City Commission of the City of <br /> <br />La Porte, and the City Commission shall canvass said returns <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />at the earliest practicable time, and shall, immediately after <br /> <br />canvassing the returns, declare the results of the election. <br /> <br />The Mayor shall immediately thereafter deliver to the candidate <br />for whom the greatest number of votes has been polled for each <br /> <br />respective office, a certificate of election. Such elected <br /> <br />officials shall assume their duties within ten (10) days there- <br /> <br />after, Sundays excluded, upon their taking the oath of office. <br /> <br />Section 6. Notice of said election shall be given by <br /> <br />publication in the La Porte-Bayshore Sun, not less than ten <br /> <br />(10) days nor more than thirty (30) days prior to the date of <br /> <br />the said election, of the following notice: <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />"NOTICE OF ELECTION <br /> <br />"I, E. A. THOMAS, Mayor of the City of La Porte, <br />Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, <br />do hereby order that an election be held in the City <br />of La Porte, Texas, on the 7th day of April, 1973, <br />and a run-off election, if necessary, shall be held <br />on May 5, 1973, for the purpose of electing a <br />Commissioner for position 1, and a Commissioner for <br />Position 3; and that said election shall be held at <br />the City Hall in said City between seven o'clock (7:00) <br />A.M. and seven o'clock (7:00) P.M. on said date, and <br />the following named persons are the appointed officials <br />of said election, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Presiding Judge <br /> <br />Mrs. Arbe1a Ralston <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />"Alternate Presiding Judge Mrs. Isadore Jenkins <br /> <br />"Absentee voting by personal appearance shall begin on <br />the 20th day and shall continue through the 4th day <br />preceding the day of the election and shall be conducted <br />at the City Hall of the City of La porte, bet~een the <br />hours of eight o'clock (8:00) A.M. and five o'clock <br />(5:00) P.M., Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays, <br />
