<br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Ordinance No. l355 <br /> <br />, Page 4. <br /> <br />"Section 8-67. Mechanical Work - Bond. The Building In- <br />spector is instructed to prescribe the amount of Five <br />Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) as the requirement for bonds <br />executed in accordance wi th the Southern Standard Mechanical <br />Code, provisions concerning mechanical work." <br /> <br />Section 11. Section 8-16 of the Code of Ordinances of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte is hereby amended, to hereafter read as follows, <br /> <br />to-wit: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />"Section 8-16. Standard Building Code Amended. The <br />Standard Building Code, heretofore adopted by the City <br />Council of the City of La Porte, be, and the same is hereby <br />amended to read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />Section 1125. Fire Detection Systems. Every newly <br />constructed dwelling, and every newly constructed <br />dwelling unit within an apartment house, condominium, <br />townhouse, and every guest room in a hotel or motel, <br />and every basement or cellar wi thin such dwellings, <br />shall be provided with an Underwriters Laboratories, <br />Inc., approved smoke detector, which may be either <br />l20-volt A.C., or battery operated. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Detector shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall at <br />a point centerly located in the corridor or area <br />giving access to rooms used for sleeping purposes. <br />In an efficiency dwelling uni t, the detector shall <br />be centrally located on the ceiling of the main <br />room. Where sleeping rooms are of an uppper level, <br />the detector shall be placed in the center of the <br />ceiling directly above the stairway. All detectors <br />shall be located within twelve (12) inches of the <br />ceiling. Care shall be exercised to insure that the <br />installation will not interfere wi th the operating <br />characteristics of the detector. When activated, <br />the detector shall provide an audible alarm." <br /> <br />Section 12. A new section is hereby added to Chapter 8, <br /> <br />Article 2, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of La Porte, <br /> <br />said section being numbered 8-21, which is to hereafter read as <br />follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Section 8-21. General and Mechanical Contractors - <br />Liability Insurance. No permit shall be issued for any <br />general or mechanical contracting work, as said work is <br />defined wi thin the Southern Standard Building Code, 1982 <br />Edition, until the general or mechanical contractor or <br />his employer shall have arranged to carry the following <br />insurance: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(a) workers' compensation insurance on each and <br />everyone of his employees as required and in <br />accordance with the provisions of the Workers' <br />Compensation Act of the State of Texas~ <br />
