REGULAR MEETING OF THE LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL • MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 24, 1983 • 1. 2. 3. The invocation was given by Councilperson Malone. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Cline at 7:00 P.M. Members of the Council Present: Mayor Virginia Cline, Council- persons Lindsay Pfeiffer, Deotis Gay, B. Don. Skelton, Norman Malone, John Longley, Edward Matuszak Members of the CQUncil Absent: Councilpersons Kevin Graves, Linda Westergren Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, City Attorney Knox Askins, Assistant City Secretary Cherie Black, Director of Administrative Services Bob Herrera, Director of Public Works Jerry Hodge Others Present: Robert Horton,,•' Carl Cole; Linda Castleberry, Bayshore Sun; Frieda Beaty, Baytown Sun; 3 interested citizens Council considered the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the City Council held August 3, 1983. Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to ap rove the minutes of the August 3, 1983, meeting as resented. Second by Council- person Pfeiffer. The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Pfeiffer, Gay, Skelton, Malone, Longley, Matuszak and Mayor Cline Nays: None 4. Mayor Cline recognized Robert Horton as Employee of the Month for July and presented him with a certificate of appreciation. Mr. Horton conveyed his thanks and his please to be a City employee. Mayor Cline presented Carl Cole with a certificate of appre- ciation for being selected employee of the month of August. Mr. Cole conveyed his thanks for the honor. 5. Council considered emergency action due to Hurricane Alicia. City Attorney Askins read Resolution 83-15, authorizing the City Manager to be named as the applicant's agent for obtaining . certain Federal financial assistance under the Disaster Relief Act or otherwise available from the President's Disaster Relief Fund.
