~~.
GOLF COURSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES
JUNE ~, 1987
1. The meeting was called to ,order at 6:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman David Brady, Vice Chairman Ruede Wheeler,
Lloyd Roper, Rickard Hayes, Dennis Dunham, Jack Humphrey
MEMBERS ABSENT: John Kiibler
OTHERS PRESENT: City Manager Bob Herrera, Asst. City Manager John
Joerns, Director of Parks & Recreation Stan Sherwood, CIP Manager
Pat O'Mally, Jay Riviere and Bruce Latel of Riviere-Marr, Inc.
2. Jay Riviere discussed the status on the golf course construction.
The first phase of earthmoving moved 58,330 cubic yards ('7,000 cubic
yards per day being moved). Hy June 20, dirt should be moved on
northside of Weems. Shaping can be done in most weather conditions
and should not slow process down. Areas still needing clearing are
practice area 5.5 acres, ditch by clubhouse 1.5 acres, and southside
is cleared. Dirt allocated for driving range is 9900 cubic yards.
The 3" crown was reduced to 1-1/2" on driving range making a 1 to 1-
1/2~ slope so water still gets off fast making a savings of 2,000
cu.yds. which is a $2,500.00 savings. Drain piping and 5 catch
basins can be eliminated without sacrificing quality of golf course
• and will not affect drainage. This will save $11,052.00 making a
net savings of $13,652.00 to put back into budget from driving
range. Lake "A" is complete and Lake "B" should be finished by this
evening. The lakes average 9.5 feet deep. While shaping northside
and moving dirt on southside, the irrigation can be started.
Culverts should be put in today. southside has 85,000 cu.yds. and
will be moved in 18 working days. September and October are good
growing months. By seeding with bermuda and overseeding with rye
there would be a possibility of the course opening in December.
Greens Superintendent should be on board three (3) months in
advance. Thirty (30) days before opening, crews need to be on
board. Pro needs some knowledge of how to run a business. Hob
Herrera suggested that Jay Riviere provide some feedback at next
meeting in regards to type of personnel, maintenance, pro,
greenskeeper etc.
3. John Joerns explained that they were examining cost of Carter taking
over City work. He talked to Carter about the different techniques
on earthmoving, shaping around the greens and tees, ie; change
methodolgy or work as originally scheduled such as the drains. The
City will make recommendations to the committee for decisions on
items in the contract or money saving cuts.
L~
