~ ~ <br />c: <br />MINUTES <br />OF THE <br />REGULAR MEETING OF THE LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 5, 1982 <br />1. Call to order by Mayor Cline at 7:00 P.M. <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Graves <br />Members of the Council Present: Councilpersons Norman <br />Malone, John Longley, Edward Matuszak, Kevin Graves, <br />Lindsay Pfeiffer, Deotis Gay, Don Skelton, Linda Wester- <br />gren and Mayor Virginia Cline <br />Members of the Council Absent: None <br />• <br />Members of the Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, Director <br />of Public Works Jerry Hodge, Parks Director Stan Sherwood, <br />Assistant Police Chief Robert Hall, Fire Marshal Paul Hicken- <br />bottom, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Graduate Engineer John Joerns, <br />Chief Inspector David Paulissen <br />Others Present: Craig Garnett, Bayshore Sun; Frieda Beaty, <br />Baytown Sun; Dave Corbin of Busch, Hutchison & Associates; <br />and 31 interested citizens <br />3. The Council considered the minutes of the Regular Meeting of <br />April 21, 1982 and the Special Called Meeting of April 28, <br />1982. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the minutes <br />as corrected. Second by Councilperson Pfeiffer. The motion <br />carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Matuszak, Graves, <br />Pfeiffer, Gayy Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Cline <br />Nays: None <br />• <br />At this time Mayor Cline read a proclamation declaring the <br />week of May 15 as National Police Week, and presented the <br />proclamation to Assistant Chief Robert Hall. <br />4. Councilman Jim Kite of Deer Park was unable to attend the <br />Council meeting to present films concerning the proposed solid <br />waste compaction system. However, Councilperson Don Skelton, <br />at the request of the Mayor, briefed the Council and those <br />present on the necessity of further investigation into the <br />matter.
