• <br />• <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />AND SPECIAL CALLED WORKSHOP MEETING <br />OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 9, 2001 <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 p.m. <br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken, <br />Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Alton Porter, James Warren, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke, <br />and Norman Malone. <br />Members of Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Manager Robert T. <br />Herrera, City Attorney Knox Askins, Assistant City Manager John Joerns, City Secretary <br />Martha Gillett, Finance Director Cynthia Alexander, Director of Administrative Services <br />Carol Buttler, Assistant City Secretary Sharon Harris, Public Works Director Steve <br />Gillett, and Planning Director Doug Kneupper, <br />Others Present: Nick Barrera, Roy Myers, Paul Larson, David Turnquist, Sib Carpenter, <br />Spero Pomonis, and a number of citizens. <br />2. Councilman Alton Porter delivered the invocation. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Special Called Meeting on June 25, <br />2001. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve the minutes of the Special Called <br />Meetings on June 25, 2001 as presented. Second by Councilperson Griffiths. The motion <br />carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke, and <br />Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />TAXPAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL. <br />The following citizens addressed City Council. <br />Paul Larson - 406 N. 4~' Street La Porte, TX. 77571 addressed council with three <br />different concerns. 1) Cars being allowed to park on the playground at the park located at <br />North 4`~ and Tyler, 2) the city considering the approval of bicycle paths within the city, <br />allowing citizens to bicycle without fear of traffic 3) his objection to Zion Hill Baptist <br />church being allowed to build a bigger church on North 6`~ Street. <br />
