MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
<br />OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL
<br />OCTOBER 8, 2001
<br />1. CALL TO ORDER
<br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:08 p.m.
<br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken,
<br />Howard Ebow, Alton Porter, James Warren, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke, and Norman
<br />Malone.
<br />Members of Council Absent: Peter Griffiths
<br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Attorney Knox
<br />Askins, Assistant City Manager John Joerns, City Secretary Martha Gillett, Assistant
<br />Finance Director Mike Dolby, Public Works Director Steve Gillett, Emergency Services
<br />Director Joe Sease, Planning Director Doug Kneupper, Police Chief Richard Reff, and
<br />Golf Pro Alex Osmond.
<br />Others Present: Rose Wegmann, Bill Scott, Al & Rae Fairfield, Long Vo, Stephen
<br />Guajardo, Sib Carpenter, Laura Hernandez, Jessica & Candace Tallady, Adam Mooney,
<br />Travis Barnett, Silvio Rocha, Lucia Petros, Christina Miller, April Stephens, Jenny
<br />Francis, Sue Gail Kooken, and a number of citizens.
<br />2. Councilperson Alton Porter delivered the invocation.
<br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Regular Meeting, Public Hearing and
<br />Special Called Workshop Meetings held on September 24, 2001.
<br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve the minutes of the Regular
<br />Meeting, Public Hearin a�pecial Called Workshop Meetings held on September 24,
<br />2001 as presented. Second by Councilperson Ebow. The motion carried.
<br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke, and Malone.
<br />Nays: None
<br />Abstain: None
<br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND
<br />TAXPAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL.
<br />The following citizen addressed City Council.
<br />Bill Scott— 1802 Lomax School Road, LaPorte, TX 77571 addressed Council
<br />concerning legal service fees. He compared City of La Porte charges to the cities of
<br />Coppers Cove, Pearland, Galveston and Deer Park. He informed City Council he still has
<br />not received any answers to questions he asked of the Council, at the Council Meeting on
<br />September 10, 2001. He stated he wanted his council representatives to advise him why
<br />the City of La Porte continues to pay such a high amount for legal fees.
