Meeting called to order by Mayor Meza at 7:00 P.M. <br />Members of the City Council Present: Mayor Meza, Council- <br />persons Norman Malone, John Longley, Gus Faris, I. J. Kibo- <br />deaux, Tom Simons, Don Skelton and Linda Westergren <br />Members of the City Council Absent: Councilperson Deotis Gay <br />Members of the City Staff Present: City Manager Jim Hudgens, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Betty Waters, Police <br />Chief Herb Freeman, Public Works Director Jerry Hodge, Chief <br />of Inspections David Paulissen, Fire Marshal Paul Hickenbottom, <br />Parks Director Stan Sherwood, Director of Engineering John <br />Joerns <br />• Others Present in the Council Chambers: Betsy Webber, Bay- <br />shore Sun; Frieda Beaty, Baytown Sun; 11 other persons present <br />in the Council Chambers ' <br />2. The invocation was given by Mayor Meza. <br />3. Council considered the minutes of the August 19, 1981, Regular <br />Meeting of the La Porte City Council. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Simons to approve and adopt <br />the minutes of August 19, 1981. Seconded by Councilperson <br />Skelton. <br />Councilperson Longley called attention to a statement he made <br />under Council Action which was a mis-quote since the cross-over <br />he referred to was not the cross walk constructed for school <br />children, even though he was happy to see the new cross walk <br />that has been constructed for the children. <br />The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Kibodeaux, Simons, <br />Skelton, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />Councilperson Gay arrived and seated himself at the Council <br />• table at 7:05 P.M. <br />
