438 <br />MINUTES <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />April 149 19470 8:00 P. M. <br />Meeting was called to order by Mayor Ruff with the following <br />Aldermen and City Officials present: Ald. J. N. Johnson, <br />George F. Norris, J. J. Roark, J. L. Dunham, T. F. Smith, <br />City Atty Jno. S. Kiibler, City Secretary Sharp. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />The Mayor presented an affidavit on the burning of the <br />following City of La Porte Warrants, City of La Porte <br />Water System Warrants Numbers 1 to 22 inclusive, each in <br />the principal sum of $1,000,00 with interest coupons at- <br />tached and Numbers 23, 24 and 25 which were not issued, <br />each in the principal sum of $1,000,00 with interest.cou- <br />pons attached-, each of said Warrants being dated Otcober <br />10th, 1945. <br />Motion by Roark, second by Smith, that Warrants Nos. 9194 <br />to 9246 inclusive for current bills and payroll be ratified. <br />Carried. <br />The City Seeretary�presented a check in the amount of <br />$323,41 from the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in <br />payment of gross receipts tax due the City of La Porte <br />for the year 1946. <br />.� Motion by Johnson, second by Smith, that this check be <br />accepted and an official receipt be issued to the South- <br />western Bell Telephone Company, <br />Carried. <br />The Mayor presented the Corporation Court Report from <br />January 1st to April 4th, 1947. <br />Motion by Roark, second by Smith, that the Corporation <br />Court Report as presented by the Mayor be accepted and <br />Mayor's fees paid. Carried. <br />Motion by Johnson, second by Smith, that the City Council <br />ratify the exchange of that certain $1,000.00 Grimes County, <br />Texas, 5 Special Road Bond Series D, No. 811, due April <br />10, 1945 at First National Bank, put up as collateral ex- <br />changed for one $1,000,00 Lower Neches Valley Authority <br />2 Water Revenue Bond, No. A971, due January 15, 1945 and <br />further that the release of the old Trust Receipt signed <br />by the National Bank of Commerce of Houston, Texas, be <br />ratified. <br />Carried. <br />The Mayor asked that the returns of the City Election held <br />on April 1, 1947, be canvassed. <br />The election returns were canvassed as follows: <br />
