• <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 10, 1993 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Mike Cooper, Bob Thrower, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Jack Maxwell <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilpersons Deotis Gay, <br />Jerry Clarke <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Sue Lenes, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Planning Director Chuck Harrington <br />Police Chief Bobby Powell, Director of Administrative Services <br />Louis Rigby, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Director of Public Works <br />Steve Gillett, Buyer Susan Kelley, Records Management <br />Administrator Cathy DeArmond and a number of La Porte Police <br />Officers and Reserve Officers. <br />Others Present: Several Citizens from La Porte and <br />Morgan's Point <br />2. The invocation was given by City Attorney Knox Askins. <br />3. Council considered approving minutes of the special called <br />meeting held on May 3, 1993. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Cooper to approve the May 3 <br />minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson Maxwell. The <br />motion carried, 6 ayes and 0 nays and 1 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Maxwell and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilperson Thrower <br />4. There were no citizens wishing to address council. At this <br />time under remonstrances the Mayor asked Council to join him <br />in the audience and review the film "Man Behind The Shield". <br />The Mayor then presented a proclamation for National Police <br />Week. Mayor Malone commended the La Porte Police Department <br />for their outstanding work and dedication to the citizens of <br />the City of La Porte. Officer Donna Cook spoke on behalf of <br />the children of La Porte and Officer Tim Bird presented an <br />award to Conrad Reynolds for assisting a La Porte Police <br />Officer with his car in a time of need. <br />
