The City Clerk shall not <br /> <br />permit anyone to vote absentee by personal appearance on any day <br /> <br />which is not a regular working day for the Clerk's office, or at <br /> <br />any time when the Clerk's office is not open to the public. The <br /> <br />City Clerk of the City of La Porte is hereby authorized and direct- <br /> <br />ed to appoint deputy absentee balloting clerks, as necessary. <br /> <br />Section 5. Immediately after the close of the polls on <br />the 23rd day of April, 1968, the election officials shall make due <br /> <br />return thereof to the City Commission of the City of La Porte, and <br /> <br />the City Commission shall canvass said returns at the earliest <br /> <br />practicable time, and shall, immediately after canvassing the <br /> <br />returns, declare the results of the election. The Mayor shall <br /> <br />immediately thereafter deliver to the candidate for whom the <br /> <br />greatest number of votes has been polled for each respective <br /> <br />office, a certificate of election. Such elected officials shall <br /> <br />assume their duties within ten (lO) days thereafter, Sundays <br /> <br />excluded, upon their taking the oath of office. <br /> <br />Section 6. Notice of said election shall be given by <br />publication in the La Porte-Bayshore Sun, not less than thirty <br /> <br />(30) days prior to the date of the said election, of the follow- <br /> <br />ing notice: <br /> <br />"NOTICE OF ELECTION" <br /> <br />I, H. P. Pfeiffer,Mayor of the City of La Porte, <br />Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, <br />do hereby order that an election be held in the City <br />of La Porte, Texas, on the 23rd day of April, 1968, <br />for the purpose of electing a Mayor; a Commissioner <br />for Position 2; and a Commissioner for Position 4; <br />and that said election shall be held at the City Hall <br />in said City between seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. and <br />seven o'clock (7:00) P.M. on said date, and the <br />following named persons are the appointed officials <br />of said election, to-wit: <br /> <br />Presiding Judge Mrs. ArbeLa RaLston <br />Alternate Presiding Judge Mrs. GLadys Harrison <br /> <br />Absentee voting by personal appearance shall begin on <br />the 20th day and shall -continue through the 4th day <br />preceding the day of the election and shall be conducted <br />at the City Hall of the City of La Porte, between the <br />hours of nine o'clock (9:00) A.M. and five o'clock <br />(5:00) P.M., except on Saturdays, and legal holidays. <br /> <br />H.
