GLOSSARY <br />The words and terms used in this Employee Policies Handbook shall cover the following <br />meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. <br />ABSENCE — Not at the assigned workstation during a scheduled time <br />ABSENTEEISM — The frequent or periodic practice of not being present for work <br />ANNIVERSARY DATE — The employee's date of hire or most recent promotion date <br />CERTIFICATION PAY — Additional compensation for acquired skills in accordance with <br />approved departmental certification programs <br />CHAIN OF COMMAND — the line of authority for which directions are given and for which <br />complaints should be filed. <br />CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE INFORMATION — Employee records, documents, pay <br />documents, etc. that are maintained by the City that will not be released without proper required <br />documentation <br />CONTRACT EMPLOYEE — Employees, who are not employees of the City, but work for the <br />City, through a signed agreement. <br />DEMOTION — A demotion is the assignment of employees from their current grade level to a <br />grade level having a lower maximum salary <br />DISCIPLINARY ACTION — Any process taken to correct inappropriate employee behavior <br />ranging from verbal reprimand up to and including termination <br />FULL TIME EMPLOYEE — An employee who regularly works 40 hours per week and is eligible <br />for a full benefits package. <br />HOLIDAY PAY — A set number of paid holidays each year, approved by the City Manager <br />IMMEDIATE FAMILY — is defined as a dependent of the employee <br />INCENTIVE PAY — Payment provided to employees as motivation to complete a task. <br />MORAL TURPITUDE - conduct that is considered contrary to reasonable standards of justice, <br />honesty, or good morals. <br />NEPOTISM — Family relationships to the employee based upon consanguinity (blood relatives) <br />or affinity (relatives through marriage) <br />PART TIME EMPLOYEE — is an employee who works less than 40 hours during a work week <br />and is not eligible to receive the full scope and level of benefits. <br />PAY FOR PERFORMANCE (PFP) DATE — The date employees are eligible for Pay for <br />Performance Increases. <br />PHYSICAL REPORT STATUS — The status an employee is placed on following the use of 5 <br />sick days or the equivalent number of hours within a 6 -month period. <br />66 <br />
