Box 12276 Austin, TX 78711 -2276 Attention: Mark Wolfe, State Historic Preservation Officer Subject: State Archeological Landmark Nominations, Sylvan Beach Pavilion, La Port, Harris County, Texas Dear Mr. Wolfe: We have received your letter dated 27 September 2010 and have grave concems over the fiscal impact which would occur if Sylvan Beach Pavilion, La Porte is designated as a State Archeological Landmark. We have reviewed the Texas Antiquities Code and feel that the burden of limiting qualified architects, engineers and contractors as well as time delays will put the restoration project in danger. We are currently preparing phase one drawings for submittal to the Texas Historic Commission for the initial foundation stabilization and seawater infiltration prevention plan. Phase two plans propose a restoration with a Texas Department of Rural Affairs Hurricane Ike Recovery Grant. The grant funds will be used to repair, restore and preserve the pavilion. These grant funds are limited and have a short expiration date. We respectfully request the designation be disapproved or delayed until the restoration grant program is complete.
