LP City Council SAL Discussion <br /> 10 Minutes `For' SAL designation <br /> Introduction <br /> FSBP &P is 501 c 3 educational non profit <br /> Ted Powell is the current president <br /> Background <br /> • FSBP &P successfully nominated the SBP to the National historic <br /> Registry — listed on 9 September, 2010 <br /> • On 22 Sept received a call from TDRA that they had been observing our <br /> efforts and now that the building has achieved NHR status they had are <br /> awarding a HUD CDBG for the pavilions restoration. (Note: only 1 <br /> other project was awarded an historical restoration HUD CDBG Ike <br /> related grant — Galveston Strand Facade project). <br /> • FSBP &P has also successfully nominated the SBP for state :RTHL <br /> (Recorded Texas Historical Landmark). The HCHC andtheState <br /> Historical Commission has approved the nomination and :we have sent <br /> the THC a $1500 check for the historical marker casting: <br /> • FSBP &P has also nominated the SBP for SAL status during 4Q10. <br /> (Note: An SAL nomination can not be submitted until NHR listing is <br /> achieved) The THC reviewed the nomination and deemed the building <br /> eligible. The Antiquities board will review the nomination this <br /> Wednesday in Austin and if they approve will forward to the Historical <br /> Commissioners Board for their final consideration during their 2Q11 <br /> meeting. <br /> What is the purpose of the designations?: <br /> • NHR: National recognition of an important historical asset for the state <br /> and nation. Federal protection against the use of federal funds to <br /> damage or destroy this historical landmark <br /> • SAL: Although titled SAL this nomination is for a building not an <br /> archeological dig of the ground under the pavilion.
