This association is gathering Texas boat sales transaction data in preparation for <br />the 2013 Texas legislative session. <br />Texas Governor’s Business Forum: Aerospace Collaboration Opportunities <br />The Texas Governor’s Business Forum was held on Feb. 17, 2012, at NASA <br />Johnson Space Center’s Gilruth Center. Sponsored by the Office of the <br />Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism division, the Texas Workforce <br />Commission(TWC), SanJacinto College, NASA Johnson Space Center, and the <br />Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, the day-long event provided helpful <br />information for small business development as well as those transitioning between <br />jobs. Of note, chief executive officers from across the nation were invited to <br />participate in facilitated tours of Johnson Space Center, which focused on <br />resources and assets available and opportunities to develop new and evolving <br />partnerships. Following a presentation by the Texas Workforce Commission, <br />TWC Commissioner Andres Alcantar, Texas Sen. Mike Jackson, Texas Rep. John <br />Davis, NASA JSC Director Mike Coats, and Bob Mitchell, president of BAHEP, <br />participated in a panel discussion that addressed economic challenges and current <br />initiatives designed to meet those challenges. Mark Sirangelo, chairman emeritus, <br />Commercial Spaceflight Federation, spoke briefly during the lunch break, <br />preceding the keynote speaker, The Honorable Hope Andrade, Texas Secretary of <br />State. Afternoon breakout sessions provided a wide range of assistance, including <br />a BayTech workshop presented by Kim Morris, BayTech director, and Dan Seal <br />of BAHEP. <br />BAHEP Business Assistance Activities <br />Staff members made presentations and participated in conferences, seminars, and <br />industry meetings to assist BAHEP members. AssistsReturning Military Veterans <br />BAHEP has createda new assistance program for returning military veterans. The <br />program called “BAHEP Cares!”,is a military transition mentoring program, <br />designed to help returning veterans find new careers and employment. The <br />BAHEP Cares! had15 BAHEP members in attendanceat its first meeting in <br />March and volunteer mentors are now working with five returning veterans. <br />7 <br /> <br />
