• <br />- Community Investment Committee: <br />Goal: To define a plan of action which will transform La Porte <br />into an attractive city, while simultaneously encouraging <br />the development of new businesses and the expansion of <br />existing ones. <br />Proposed recommendations include projects such as: <br />- enhancing the city's image and attractiveness by <br />landscaping focal entrance points, clean-up incentive <br />programs, and establishing beautification programs <br />(i.e. wild flower seeding and street tree programs); <br />- facilitating the development the city's curb and <br />guttered street systems; <br />and structuring the city's Master Plan to be more <br />conducive to La Porte's economic growth. <br />rconomic Development Concepts: <br />- Housing, Restaurant & Hotel Conference Committee: <br />• Goal: To identify resources that will attract new housing, <br />restaurant, and hotel investors to the La Porte area, <br />and encourage the expansion of existing residential and <br />retail areas. <br />Proposed recommendations include projects such as: <br />- designing a metropolitan "growth" plan based on the <br />city's natural assets (i.e. Galveston Bay, Sylvan <br />Beach, and Bay Forest Municipal Golf Course); and <br />- marketing the city's tangible (i.e. climate, tax <br />structure, location, etc.) and intangible <br />(i.e. the spirit of civic cooperation) assets. <br />- Industry Committee: <br />Goal: To develop a positive business climate that will <br />support the expansion of existing industries, and attract <br />new industrial developments. <br />Proposed recommendations include projects such as: <br />- developing a community relations program that <br />allows local organizations to unite and <br />• demonstrate a positive business climate, and <br />-vi- <br />
