~ ~ <br />Page 4 of 10 <br /> <br />Subject: INJURY SUFFERED WHILE ON DUTY <br />1. The City Commission has elected to have the City <br />become self insured under the Workmen's Compensation laws of <br />the State of Texas. This means that all employees are pro- <br />tected just the same as if they were covered by an insurance <br />company. <br />2. An employee injured while in the performance of his <br />assigned duties for the City, no matter how slight the injury, <br />shall immediately report to his supervisor and receive first <br />aid and, if necessary, be taken to a doctor or hospital. <br />3. Note To De artment Heads: Fill out accident report, <br />take statements of ellow wor ec~ rs who witnessed the accident <br />and see that this information is attached to the attending <br />physician's report and turned in to the office. <br />4. Time and amount an employee is paid while off duty <br />due to injury is figured as follows: <br />• Workmen's Compensation will take precedence and pay <br />first when an employee is injured on the job. At this <br />writing (Z-1-71) Workmen's Compensation pays $49.00 per <br />week. <br />An employee's sick leave pay will be used to supple- <br />ment the Workmen's Compensation, but in no event is <br />employee to receive more than his regular salary. <br />EXAMPLE: Employee's salary is $100.00 per week; he <br />has 60~ays accumulated sick leave and he gets hurt on <br />job: <br />He will be paid $49.00 a week from Workmen's Compen- <br />sation and $51.00 a week sick leave pay; making a total <br />of $100.00. <br />60 days sick leave <br />$1200.00 $51.00 = <br />leave will suppleme <br />After this time, if <br />return to work, he will <br />Workmen's Compensation. <br />= 12 wks or $1200.00 <br />23.5 weeks that sick <br />nt Workmen's Compensation. <br />employee is unable to <br />receive $49.00 a week <br />• <br />
