City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE <br />N0. 1285, "AN ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING POLICEMEN'S CIVIL <br />SERVICE; ESTABLISHING CLASSIFICATIONS; NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED <br />POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATIONS; ESTABLISHING PAY SCHEDULES; <br />CONTAINING A SEVERABILTTY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; AND PRO- <br />VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF". <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Faris to pass and approve <br />Ordinance No. 1285-A as read by the City Attorney. Administrative Reports: <br />Public Works Director Jerry Hodge presented costs for new <br />Christmas street decorations for the City. of La Porte. Hodge <br />gave costs for several plans. <br />President of the La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce Lou <br />Lawler addressed Council concerning the need for new Christmas <br />decorations for the streets of La Porte this year. She re- <br />vealed the date and plans laid by several civic organizations <br />and the school to light La Porte for the Christmas season on <br />December 5, 1981. Lawler further committed $2,000.00 towards <br />the purchase of Christmas decorations for the streets of La <br />Porte this year. <br />A motion was made by Councilperson Malone declaring an emer- <br />gency due to the short time for o taming t e nee a ecora- <br />tions and appropriating 5, 4 .00 from t e General Fund <br />Contingency to purchase new C ristmas street decorations. <br />Seconded by Councilperson Simons. <br />The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Malone, Longley, Faris, Kibodeaux, <br />Simons, Gay, Westergren and Mayor Meza <br />Nays: None <br />
