City Attorney Askins read: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 1285, "AN ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE; ESTABLISHING CLASSIFICATIONS; NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATIONS; ESTABLISHING PAY SCHEDULES; CONTAINING A SEVERABILTTY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; AND PRO- VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF". A motion was made by Councilperson Faris to pass and approve Ordinance No. 1285-A as read by the City Attorney. Seconded by Councilperson Westergren. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. Administrative Reports: Public Works Director Jerry Hodge presented costs for new Christmas street decorations for the City. of La Porte. Hodge gave costs for several plans. President of the La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce Lou Lawler addressed Council concerning the need for new Christmas decorations for the streets of La Porte this year. She re- vealed the date and plans laid by several civic organizations and the school to light La Porte for the Christmas season on December 5, 1981. Lawler further committed $2,000.00 towards the purchase of Christmas decorations for the streets of La Porte this year. A motion was made by Councilperson Malone declaring an emer- gency due to the short time for o taming t e nee a ecora- tions and appropriating 5, 4 .00 from t e General Fund Contingency to purchase new C ristmas street decorations.
