Wf~REA.S. .Texas will celebrate 150 years of independence During 1986, and. . <br />2. ~nTHEREA,S. .This Cotmcil for the City of La Porte, Texas has wholeheartedly <br />conmitted its support to this celebration, and. . <br />3 . Wri-iEREA.S . . A major goal of the La Porte, Texas 1986 Sesquicentenni.a.l Celebration <br />master plan is to inwlve the entire comza.mity in activities that will <br />have lasting benefits for the~ca~mity as a whole, and. . <br />4. WI~REAS. .The task force dedicated to establish and maintain a La Porte/Bayshore <br />Historical Tour is well on its way to getting this task accomplished <br />by January 1, 1986, and. . <br />5. WHEREAS. .The La Porte/Bayshore (amber of Commerce is considering a similar pro- <br />posal presented to the Board of Directors for support of the Historical <br />Tour promotion, as well as the Bayshore area with "billboards" and a <br />high quality brochure. . <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS TO <br />MAKE WHATEVER COMMITMENT IS NECESSARY T0: <br />1. Provide financial assistance ("seed-money") to the La Porte, Texas 1986 <br />Sesquicenterm~al Coordinating Committee in the amrnmt of $5,000.00 so that <br />necessary expenditures for promotional materials, as well as other necessary <br />purchases can be made in conjunction with the State-Wide effort to assure <br />that all goals of the master plan can be carried out...noting that all of <br />the goals are designed to benefit La Porte/Bayshore residents and visitors <br />for many, many years to follow the Sesquicentermial. <br />2. Cooperate with the La Porte/Bayshore Channber of Commerce in its efforts to <br />promote this area and this comnami.ty so as to attract visitors to our City, <br />this area, and the Historical Tour, not just for the Sesquicentermial but <br />for marry, many years to follow. <br />Special.Note: These requests are in keeping with ccxnnitments being <br />made around the State so as to assure a tremendous <br />celebration is held throughout the State. <br />Respectfully bmitted <br />for your si eration, <br />de D.
