~ ~ <br />Minutes, Public Hearings and Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />August 10, 1987, Page 3 <br />The Mayor asked if anyone wished to speak in favor of the <br />special conditional use permit. No one came forward. <br />The Mayor asked if anyone wished to speak in opposition to <br />the special conditional use permit. No one came forward. <br />The Mayor declared the public hearing regarding New Jerusalem <br />Church closed. <br />5. The public hearing on the revenue sharing budget was opened <br />by the Mayor after consideration of item 6. <br />City Manager Bob Herrera reviewed the revenue sharing budget. <br />The Mayor called for public input regarding the revenue <br />sharing budget. There was none, and the Mayor declared the <br />public hearing closed. <br />6. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular <br />meeting of Council held July 27, 1987. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the July <br />27 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson Clarke. <br />The motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. (Councilperson Gay <br />had not yet arrived.) <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Lloyd, Matuszak, Porter, Shipp, <br />Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />7. A. Tom Turner, Manager, USI Chemical plant, addressed <br />Council regarding expansion of the USI plant in this area. <br />He is asking Council support in the form of incentives that <br />will cause the parent company, National Distillers, to build <br />the plant in La Porte. One of the things Mr. Turner is <br />asking for is a total tax abatement for a five-year period on <br />the potential expansion. Mr. Turner would like a response by <br />September 1, 1987. <br />The City Manager was instructed by Council to work with Mr. <br />Turner to see what can be worked out. The City Manager will <br />have a response for Council by September 1. <br />
