i • <br />Minutes Regular Meeting <br />La Porte City Council <br />February 28, 1994, Page 2 <br />Mayor Malone announced the City of La Porte and La Porte <br />Independent School District were recently recognized by the <br />Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS), with an Excellence <br />in Programming Award. Mayor Malone recognized La Porte <br />Elementary Principal John Still, Assistant Principal Charlotte <br />Ryne, Director of Communications for La Porte I.S.D., Beth <br />Rickert, City of La Porte Recreation Superintendent Tim <br />O'Connor, Recreation Center Coordinator Marian Scott, and <br />Director of Parks and Recreation Buddy Jacobs. Mayor Malone <br />thanked all for their efforts in the Extended Learning <br />Program. <br />5. There were no citizens or tax payers wishing to address <br />Council. <br />6. Council considered awarding bid for five inch fire hose to <br />Four Alarm Fire Equipment. <br />Motion was made b~ Councilperson Sutherland to award the bid <br />as presented ~ Chief Joe Sease Second by Councilperson <br />Thrower. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, <br />McLaughlin, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />7. Administrative Reports: <br />City Manager Robert T. Herrera reported the cover for the <br />Livestock/Rodeo Area is almost complete. He stated, "We are <br />currently in the process of ironing out the agreement between <br />the City and the Livestock/Rodeo Association which should be <br />on the agenda for the next regular meeting on March 14. The <br />City and the Livestock/Rodeo Association would like for <br />Council to participate with them in a "Giant Ribbon Cutting <br />Ceremony" on March 31st, starting at 1:00 P.M. The annual <br />Livestock Show will be held on that day, March 31st, and you <br />will be able to participate in a "high profile" event. Please <br />let staff know if anyone will be unable to attend." Mr. <br />Herrera reported if Council arrives about 11:30 or 12:00 Noon <br />there will be a special meeting place for them to have dinner <br />with some of the officers of the association. <br />Mayor Malone announced the Livestock Show will be held March <br />28 through the 31st and will have some stock judging Monday <br />through Thursday. The association also has plans to hold a <br />dance in the arena. <br />
