EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />Mayor Malone proclaimed the week of May 20 through 24, 1996 as National Public Works Week. <br />Accepting the proclamation was Director of Public Works Steve Gillett. Mayor Malone proclaimed the <br />week of May 19 through 25 as Emergency Medical Services Week. Accepting the proclamation were EMS <br />Chief Chris Osten, Paramedic Supervisor Ray Nolen, Paramedics Lisa Camp, Patrick Holman, Ralph <br />cleaver, and Bryan Dean. <br />6. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMiJNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND TAX PAYERS <br />WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL <br />There were no requests to speak before Council. <br />7. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN ORDINANCE AMENDING <br />ORDINANCE NO. 93-1890, BY REVISING THE SCHEDULE OF 11~1IMUM FINES FOR <br />TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS FOR THE CTTY OF LA PORTE MUNICH'AL COURT; AUTHORIZING <br />THE PRINTING OF SUCH SCHEDULE ON THE VIOLATOR'S COPY OF THE TRAFFIC <br />CTTATION (Ord. 96-1890-A) - R.T. HERRERA <br />City Manager Robert T. Herrera reviewed the summary and recommendation for the request to authorize <br />updating the minimum fine schedule for the City of La Porte to coincide with minimum fines authorized <br />by revised state law. Mr. Herrera stated, "Staff is recommending the adoption of Ordinance 97-1890-A <br />as prepared by Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong who is also our prosecutor". <br />Council discussed the ordinance and made suggestions for some verbiage changes for word clarification <br />to enable a better understand by the offender and general public. Police Chief Bobby Powell clarified the <br />meaning of the abbreviations. Mr. Herrera stated, "Mayor the suggestions being offered are ones we can <br />overcome with assistance of the City Attorney, and we have no objections to the changes". <br />Motion was made by Councilnerson Clarke to approve Ordinance 96-1890-A with verbiage clarification <br />changes. Second by Councilperson Thrower. The motion carved, 9 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Thrower, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke and <br />Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />8. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN ORDINANCE AMENDING <br />ORDINANCE 93-1743-A AN ORDINANCE APPROVING ANINTER-LOCAL AGREEMENT WITH <br />HARRIS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR FOOD ESTABLISHMENT SURVEILLANCE <br />PROGRAM SERVICES (Ord. 96-1743-B) - G. Rankin <br />
