City Council Minutes — November 8, 1999 — Page 2 <br />6. Presentations: <br />Officer Jerome McKown was recognized as the American Legion's Police Officer of the <br />Year. Mr. McKown was not available to attend the meeting and personally receiver his <br />award. <br />7. Council considered approving a resolution nominating a candidate for a position on the <br />Board of Directors of Harris County Appraisal District. <br />Mayor Norman Malone presented summary and recommendation and answered questions <br />for City Council. <br />City Attorney read: RESOLUTION 99-35-A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF LA PORTE CASTING ITS BALLOT FOR THE ELECTION OF A PERSON TO <br />THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE HARRIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to approve the resolution as presented by <br />Mayor Malone. Second by Councilperson Gay. The motion carried unanimously. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Gay, Young, Clarke, and Mayor <br />Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />8. Council considered approving an ordinance authorizing an engineering agreement <br />between the City of La Porte and Claunch and Miller, Inc., for professional engineering <br />services for waterline replacements. <br />Director of Public Works Steve Gillett presented summary and recommendation and <br />answered questions for City Council. <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 99-2366 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND <br />AUTHORIZING AN ENGINEERING AGREEMENT BETWEEN OF TIME CITY OF <br />LA PORTE AND CLAUNCH AND MILLER, INC., FOR PROFESSIONAL <br />ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR WATERLINE REPLACEMENTS; <br />APPROPRIATING NOT TO EXCEED $42,770.00 TO FUND SAID CONTRACT; <br />MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE <br />SUBJECT; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Engelken to approve the ordinance as presented by <br />Mr. Gillett. Second by Councilperson Clarke.
