The motion carried. Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke, and Malone. Nays: None Abstain: None 10. Council considered approving an ordinance appointing Ms. Sharon D. Harris as Assistant City Secretary. City Secretary Martha Gillett presented summary and recommendation and answered Council's questions. City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2001-2480 - AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING AN ASSISTANT CITY SECRETARY OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to approve Ordinance 2001-2480 as presented by Martha Gillett. Second by Councilperson Gay. The motion carried. Council considered approval of ordinance 1000-1-1 by adding an area at a restaurant where wine and/or beer for consumption on the premises may be sold City Secretary, Martha Gillett presented summary and recommendation and answered Council's questions. Assistant City Attorney read ORDINANCE 1000-1-1 - AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 6, SECTION 6-78 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, BY ADDING AN AREA AT A RESTAURANT WHERE WINE AND/OR BEER FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE PREMISES MAY BE SOLD; FURTHER PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
