CLOSE PUBLIC HEARING <br />The Commission agreed to continue both public hearings on May 15, 2003, at 6:00 PM in the <br />Council Chambers of City Hall. <br />VI. CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL REGARDING REZONE <br />REQUEST #R03-002. <br />The Commission delayed action on R03-002 until May 15`h <br />VII. THE PORT OF HOUSTON AUTHORITY — ENTRY PRECHECK FACILITY <br />Gwen Goodwin, City Planner, summarized the steps staff has taken to assist the Port <br />with development of the pre -check facility along Barbour's Cut Blvd - <br />Jimmy Jamison, Terminal Manager for the Port Authority since 1992, described the Port's <br />plans for the pre -check facility. Mr. Jamison encouraged the Commission to ask <br />questions about the proposed development, as well as offer their input. <br />Mr. Jamison introduced: <br />Don White, with Moffatt &r Nichol Engineers; Jim Bielstein, with the Port Authority's <br />Engineering Dept., serving as Project Manager; Brenda McDonald, Real Estate Manager <br />for the Port Authority; Laura Fiffick, Environmental Manager; and Kent Marsh, with <br />Knudson &t Associates. <br />Mr. Marsh, Principal Planner for Knudson &r Associates, described numerous aspects of <br />the project, including meetings the Port held with area homeowners to discuss their <br />concerns. <br />After presentations,.the Commission recommended the Port consider the following: <br />➢ Ensure sprinkler system is in place to care for the landscaping. <br />➢ Preserve as much of the natural landscape as possible adjacent to the sound wall <br />and fill-in open spaces with additional trees (evergreen with foliage year round). <br />➢ Construct sound wall with a heavy texture to decrease the likelihood of graffiti <br />and to increase the ability of vines to attach to the wall <br />
