BayMud' s I bedroom'
comnunity has nothing in COI11TOn with J:.l}dust;nr-oriented La Porte.

There IS a real water and sewer problem in BayMud. There are several other ways
to solve the problems without giving what we have \larked and paid for to the
Ci ty . It isn I t necessary to give up our independence,

WATER AND SEWER - The rates in LCl Porte are a little lower, loP has had sane
increases and will have to raise rates again in the next two years, as will
practically every other utility district. role have all contributed to the
subsidence and nON we must all pay for it,

ZONING - La Porte does not enforce its own zoning in commercial or residential
'l areas. Litter is cornron, weeds, delapic1ated buildings, tin fences, junk cars
1/\ and other trash can be found nearly evel)IWhere, *View the condition of comrercial
areas. DCN'T LET THEM 00 THAT 'ID US,

Most BayMud communities have deed restrictions., Those communities without such
protection can institute them, perhaps not exactly as ,they wish, but wi thin
I reasonable limits. BayMud corrmunities concerned about nobile horres should know that
''^ MA.l>N rrobile homes exist within' ,residential La Porte. lobbile hares will not
magically disappear with annexation, Concerned BayMud neighborhoods might try
working with t.l1e trailer residents in:)t~ad-.(ji"against them. r-X>bile home owners
want nice clean safe neighborhoods, too. t-bst are owners and taxpayers, too.

'-j.. BayMud has stronger remedies for reroval of weeds, delapidated houses, junk cars
and such things than La Porte. The Neighborhood Nuisance Abatement Act was
passed especially for unincorporated areas. It is only necessary to make a
complaint to the County. This is a LAW, does not require funding, as was
erroneously stated in a meeting, and has already been invoked and enforced.
*County Commissioners of c., County Sheriff's ofc.

'>X RIGHT-OF-WAYS - La Porte's care of right-of-ways is haphazard, *I.ook at
South 4th near the old Post Office, at South 5th, and HOlrres St. The area
around the_old Dej2C>t is usually disgraceful and the vacant lots near the
apartnent buildings are an eyesore and dangerous to residents and their children.
In BayMud, Harris County cares for street right-of-ways and di tchbanks on a
regular basis. Only one inspection
violation notice was observed within the city limits of La Porte.

r;

INSURANCE RA'IES - iThere is no good reason to believe that individual hare
insurance rates Woul~ be lCNler in me ctty,

:
Each horreCMner s~ould check with his insurance ccmpany.
