• <br />RESOLUTION r?0. 88- 4 <br />WHEREAS, waste disposal has become a major problem for <br />many states and cities; and <br />WHEREAS, recent attempts to dispose of waste from other <br />entities has received much coverage from the television and <br />news media; and <br />taHEREAS, the State of Texas, and the City of Houston, in <br />particular, have been chosen as a site to dispose of waste from <br />an outside entity; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Texas is embarked on a campaign to <br />beautify the State and to keep Texas clean; and <br />WHEREAS, it is felt that the disposal of waste from <br />outside entities will be detrimental to the health, safety and <br />welfare of the State of Texas, the City of Houston, and <br />surrounding areas. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUf4CIL <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS <br />Section 1. That the City Council of the City of La Porte <br />is opposed to any disposal of waste into Texas. <br />Section 2. That the City Council of the City of La Porte <br />strongly urges that State and Federal legislators limit the <br />amount of waste that can be disposed of outside of an entity's <br />boundary limits. <br />Section 3. That the City Secretary is hereby instructed <br />to send certified copies of this Resolution to State and <br />Federal legislators in order that they be aware of the City's <br />position on this issue. <br />Section 4.
