La Porte will certainly share a <br />fair portion of this regardless of how Park Place is resolved. However, <br />the growth should be balanced covering all segments of the income range. <br />This is necessary for the merchants to be able to provide a full range of <br />,services, for *the city to provide adequate services, and for- La. Porte <br />property values to keep pace with the <br />rest of -the region. <br />And, after all, <br />an increased <br />tax'base directly yields <br />increased revenue <br />and better city <br />.services, <br />The Johnsons are attempting to follow through with Park Place for <br />several basic reasons even though the chances of relization are con- <br />siderably less than with the practical, immediate alternative: <br />1, Their basic pride in La Porte and conviction that the <br />content and 'character of La Porte are worth the time <br />and cash investment involved in Park Place. <br />2. Their conviction that there is a market for sensibly <br />planned and designed Townhomes outside of the <br />traditional areas of growth --like the Memorial and <br />Southwest areas of Houston, <br />V% <br />
