Council considered the request of Jame~ N. Wallace to <br />rezone Block 643, Lots 1-32, from commercial to light <br />industrial to accommodate the expansion of Browning-Ferris <br />Industries, Inc., facility on 16th Street. <br /> <br />Mayor Cline asked Mr. Wallace if he would like to speak on <br />behalf of his request. <br /> <br />Mr. Wallace stated that he is requesting the rezoning of this <br />area to accommodate the expansion of Browning-Ferris <br />Industries. He stated that he is the property owner and <br />is interested in selling the land in Browning-Ferris for their <br />expansion. He stated that the property was currently zoned <br />commercial and should be rezoned industrial to accommodate <br />this expansion., Mr. Wallace stated that this property. is <br />not actually on 16th Street, but instead is on 17th Street, <br />adjacent to the switching yard for the railroad. <br /> <br />Mayor Cline stated that this request had been reviewed <br />by the Planning and Zoning Commission. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Mayor Cline stated that there is no such zoning as that of <br />light industrial but should read industrial for this facility. <br /> <br />Mayor Cline then thanked Mr. Wallace and asked if there were <br />any other persons wishing to speak on this request. There were <br />none. <br /> <br />B. Council considered the reque~t of F. Carrington Weems, <br />R. D. Fletcher and Myrl Peterson to rezone a 21.8288 acre <br />tract of land south of Baypoint Townhomes from temporary <br />R-1 to commercial to allow development of 4-plex apartments. <br /> <br />Mayor Cline asked if Mr. Fletcher would like to speak on the <br />behalf of his request. <br /> <br />Mr. Fletcher stated that he had an option to buy fro~Mr. Weems <br />a 21 acre tract of land in this location and would like to <br />establish a development of 4-plex apartments. He stated that <br />there would be approximately 16 dwellings per acre.
